Who needs the 5500/6500 Extras Update?

Power Macintosh 5500/225, 6500/225 and 6500/250 users who
have upgraded from System Software 7.5.5 to Mac OS 7.6.1 via
the Mac OS Up-To-Date program should check to see if they
have the following extensions in their System Folder:

5500/6500 ATA Update
5500/6500 Video Input Update
AudioTuneUp

Power Macintosh 5500/225, 6500/225 and 6500/250 users who do
not have these extensions, should install the 5500/6500
Extras Update. Current Power Macintosh 6500/225, 6500/250,
6500/275 and 6500/300 pre-installed with Mac OS 7.6.1,
already include these 5500/6500 Updates. These users do not
need to install this Update.

How do I install the 5500/6500 Extras Update?

1. Mac OS 7.6.1 should already be installed on your
computer.

2. Double-click the Installer icon on the 5500/6500 Extras
Update disk.

3. Click the Switch Disk button until your hard disk appears
in the Destination Disk window.

4. Click the Install button.

5. Click the Restart button after installation is
successful.

What is installed by the 5500/6500 Extras Update?

The following extensions are installed by the 5500/6500
Extras Update:

5500/6500 ATA Update 1.0
5500/6500 Video Input Update 1.0.3
AudioTuneUp 1.3

Additionally, the 5500/6500 Extras Update installs the
following Apple software:

MoviePlayer 2.5.1
QuickTime(TM) MPEG Extension 1.0
QuickTime(TM) VR 2.0

5500/6500 ATA Update

This extension improves performance when Virtual Memory is
turned on in the Memory control panel. This extension is
installed in the Extensions folder.

5500/6500 Video Input Update:

The 5500/6500 Video Input Update is a system extension that
enhances system stability on Power Macintosh 5500 and 6500
models when running video capture applications. This
extension is installed in the Extensions folder in the
System Folder.

AudioTuneUp:

The AudioTuneUp extension corrects a problem where if
external speakers were connected during start up and then
disconnected, the internal built-in speakers remained muted.
To work around this problem, users had to restart the
computer after disconnecting the external speakers. For
Power Macintosh 5500 users, this extension also disables the
built-in speakers when external speakers are connected to
the Sound output port on the back of the computer. Without
the AudioTuneUp extension, sound is heard from both the
external and built-in speakers. This extension is installed
in the Extensions folder in the System Folder.

MoviePlayer:

MoviePlayer is the standard application for playing movies
on the Macintosh--when you double click a QuickTime(TM)
movie, MoviePlayer is launched. MoviePlayer is located in
the folder titled MoviePlayer that is put in the Apple
Extras folder. For more information and the latest versions
of MoviePlayer, visit Apple's QuickTime(TM) web site on the
internet at: http://quicktime.apple.com/

QuickTime(TM) MPEG Extension:

The QuickTime(TM) MPEG extension works directly with
QuickTime(TM) to provide complete playback and control of
MPEG movies. After you've installed the extension, each time
you open an MPEG movie, QuickTime(TM) automatically imports
the content of the MPEG movie into a QuickTime(TM) movie as
a single MPEG track. The MPEG track contains the video and
audio streams of the MPEG movie. This extension is installed
in the Extensions folder in the System Folder. For more
information and the latest versions of the QuickTime(TM)
MPEG Extension, visit Apple's QuickTime(TM) web site on the
internet at: http://quicktime.apple.com/

Note:
The QuickTime(TM) MPEG extension does not contain a
compressor component. You cannot use the QuickTime(TM) MPEG
extension to compress a QuickTime(TM) movie to an MPEG file.

QuickTime(TM) VR:

The QuickTime(TM) VR extension works directly with
QuickTime(TM) to provide complete playback and control of
QuickTime(TM) VR movies within MovePlayer or some QuickTime
capable applications. This extension is installed in the
Extensions folder in the System Folder. For more
information and the latest versions of QuickTime(TM) VR,
visit Apple's QuickTime(TM) VR web site on the internet at:
